A workshop titled "Digital Safety of Senior Citizens: Sach Ke Saathi" was organised at the Rotary Club in Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad, under Google's prestigious 'DigiKavach' initiative, in collaboration with Jagran New Media and Vishvas News. The objective of the workshop was to raise awareness among senior citizens about online fraud and scams, and to educate them on effective ways to stay protected.
Trainers from Vishvas News explained that cybercriminals and online scammers often target senior citizens, and such cases are steadily increasing. Participants were informed about various types of online scams and frauds and were guided on how to protect themselves from them.
The trainers highlighted that during the festive season, cybercriminals often send phishing links through attractive messages. The safest way to avoid falling prey to such scams is to never click on any unknown links. The participants were also educated about the importance of using Google Password Manager and how it helps in creating strong passwords.
Trainers further explained that Google Passkey is an easy and secure alternative to traditional passwords. It allows users to log in using their fingerprint, face scan, or screen lock, ensuring greater safety for their online accounts.
Vishvas News’ Associate Editor Ashish Maharshi and Deputy Editor Devika Mehta elaborated on the rising cases of cybercrime and fraud, while also sharing details about Google’s ‘DigiKavach’ program and its objectives.
Ashish Maharshi from the fact-checking wing of Jagran New Media, Vishvas News, shared valuable tips on digital safety and explained practical ways to stay secure online.
Deputy Editor Devika Mehta informed participants about online scams conducted through AI-generated tools. She explained how cybercriminals create AI deepfake videos featuring celebrities, urging people to invest, a tactic used to deceive and trap unsuspecting individuals.
Participants also came forward to share their own bitter experiences of falling victim to cybercrimes. RK Gupta, President of the Senior Citizens Service Committee, Ghaziabad, along with several other members, attended the workshop. Gupta appreciated the initiative, saying that such training programs are extremely important for senior citizens to protect themselves from cyber fraud.
