The Delhi High Court has granted permission to Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to attend the Parliament's Budget session, PTI reported. A bench comprising Justices Chandra Dhari Singh and Anup Jairam Bhambhani stated that the police would escort Rashid while he attends the proceedings. He will be brought back to jail every day between March 26 to April 4.
The bench also clarified that during his time outside jail, Rashid will not be allowed to use a cell phone or landline, nor will he have the right to speak with the media.

The Delhi High Court reserved its order on Tuesday regarding Engineer Rashid's petition. During the hearing, senior advocates N Hariharan and Oberoi represented him. After hearing the arguments from the lawyers of Engineer Rashid and the National Investigation Agency, the bench reserved its order.
Engineer Rashid has been serving a sentence in Delhi's Tihar Jail since 2019. He faces charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was arrested by the NIA in 2017 in a case related to terrorist funding and has been in Tihar Jail for the past six years. Rashid's name surfaced when Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali was arrested by the NIA in a terror funding case.
The NIA filed charges against several individuals in this case, including Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. After being found guilty, Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court in 2022.
Engineer Rashid contested the Lok Sabha elections 2024 from the Baramulla seat while still in jail. During this time, his son and supporters campaigned for him. Rashid defeated Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah by a margin of 2.05 lakh votes.
