Authorities in Jaipur have suspended internet services across large parts of the city as a part of an anti-encroachment drive in Malviya Nagar today. Nearly 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across key areas of the city.

Why Are Authorities Facing Backlash?

The drive is being carried out as part of a long-pending project on Nandipuri Road. However, the authorities are facing extreme backlash from the locals, as the drive will demolish five religious structures: a temple, a mosque, a satsang hall, and a shrine. The structures are blocking the designated road boundaries, as outlined in the revenue road records. According to officials, the occupants of the religious structures were provided enough time to relocate before the deadline expired.

Ahead of the operation, members of the Rajasthan Muslim Forum held a meeting and offered prayers for the protection of the Noorani Mosque while appealing to authorities to preserve the mosque and an adjoining shrine.

Senior officers from the Jaipur Police Commissionerate and the JDA are present on the scene to monitor law and order. Drones are also monitoring the situation.

ASP Saroj Dhayal said, "Action is underway to remove all encroachments coming onto the road. We will remain here until it is completed, perhaps by afternoon, or it may get finished sooner," PTI reported.

Which Areas Face Restrictions?

The Jaipur Divisional Commissioner ordered the suspension of internet services across Jaipur North and Jaipur East police districts from June 7 midnight to June 8 midnight. The police said that the suspension was initiated to maintain peace and prevent the spread of rumours and inflammatory content.

The restrictions covered 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile internet services, along with social media platforms and bulk messaging services. Voice calls remained unaffected.

The affected areas include Galta Gate, Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Adarsh Nagar, Brahmpuri, Nahargarh, Kotwali, Jalupura, Sanjay Circle, Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, Vidhyadhar Nagar, Jaisinghpura Khor, Bani Park, Kanota, Toonga, Andhi, Jamwa Ramgarh, Samod, Raisar, Govindgarh, Chandwaji, Shahpura, Achrol, Viratnagar, Pawta, Pragpura, Manoharpur, Bhabru, Kaladera, Chomu, Harmada, Jhotwara, Kardhani, Vaishali Nagar, Sodala, Shyam Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Bajaj Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Jawahar Circle, Sanganer, Pratap Nagar, Muhana, Shivdaspura, Bagru, Dudu, Phagi, and Phulera.

Congress Lashes Out

A wave of political rhetoric has begun. Congress MLA Rafiq Khan has questioned the administration's demolition action and expressed his strong opposition.

Meanwhile, Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal has clarified that strict action will be taken against anyone who disrupts law and order. The administration has appealed to the public to ignore any rumors and cooperate in maintaining peace in the city.
