Jaisalmer Blackout News: The Jaisalmer district administration has imposed stringent emergency measures, such as a total blackout, market shutdown, and mobility restrictions from today evening, May 9, in response to growing security fears near the India-Pakistan border.
This decision came after border tensions escalated after the Indian Army successfully intercepted a Pakistani drone on Thursday, close to the international border.
The situation became more alarming when a suspected bomb-like device was found near Jaisalmer, accompanied by loud explosions on Friday morning.
These episodes fit into a larger pattern of drone and missile attacks by Pakistan targeting military installations throughout Rajasthan.
According to the recently implemented regulations, all commercial establishments in Jaisalmer must shut down by 5:00 PM on Friday.
A total blackout will be observed from 6 PM on Friday till 6 AM on Saturday. During this period, all residential and commercial lights must be put off.
Apart from blackout, all vehicular traffic will be completely stopped at night. Three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and all two-wheelers are prohibited.
A five-kilometre no-entry zone has also been set up by authorities surrounding important defence sites. There will be severe repercussions for any unlawful or suspect behaviour in the restricted zones, and stringent enforcement has been mandated.
There will be strict restrictions on travel on the Ramgarh-Tanot route as well. The highway will be closed indefinitely when the curfew takes effect, therefore commuters are urged to complete their journey before that.
Emergency rules have banned all forms of public gatherings, including processions, rallies, religious parades, and protests.
