'CCTV Footage Of Husband's Affair, Loans Worth Crores In Her Name': Woman Doctor Found Dead In Jalandhar

Jagran Correspondent, Jalandhar: Dr Meenakshi, who worked at a health centre in Kapurthala, allegedly died by suicide. The incident came to light on Thursday morning when a colleague arrived at her home in Kewal Vihar to pick her up for work. After receiving no response at the door, the colleague grew suspicious and alerted neighbours, who subsequently broke a window and found Meenakshi lying unconscious on the floor.

The police and the deceased's family were immediately informed. Based on a statement of Meenakshi's father, ASI Satpal Singh of Police Station Division Six has registered a case of abetment to suicide against her husband, Dr Piyush of the National Eye Hospital, who currently remains at large.

Piyush Had Taken Of Loans In Meenakshi's Name

Speaking to Jagran.com, Meenakshi's father, Pramod, alleged that Piyush had taken a loan of Rs 4.5 million in his daughter's name, and she was forced to pay the instalments. He also alleged that Piyush was having an affair with a woman who worked at the hospital, which had compelled Meenakshi to live separately.

According to Pramod, Meenakshi was planning to buy her own house. However, when she went to the bank to apply for a loan, she discovered that Piyush had already taken out a loan of Rs 2.5 crore in her name.

When she confronted him about the matter, he reportedly argued with her and started threatening her.

Marriage In 2018, Domestic Abuse, And A CCTV Evidence

Providing further details on the case, Meenakshi further stated that his daughter was married to Piyush in October 2018. Following the wedding, Piyush purchased a Mahindra Thar SUV, and Meenakshi was paying the instalments.

According to the report, Piyush regularly subjected Meenakshi to physical abuse, often calling her parents after the assaults to say, "I made a mistake".

Meenakshi suspected her husband of having an affair with a woman who worked at the hospital. When Meenakshi checked the hospital CCTV footage, she found evidence of the affair and informed her family. She had also provided the footage to the police.

The deceased's mother stated that while the case is currently being treated as a suicide, the family remains uncertain whether it was a suicide or a murder. She further noted that the exact cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem. Consequently, a three-member board of doctors has been formed to conduct the post-mortem examination.
