According to the reports, as soon as the security forces started the forward movement, fresh gunshots were fired from inside the cordoned area, leading to a befitting response from the army. Earlier on Thursday, the security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in Samno in Nehama village of Kulgam after they were tipped off about the presence of terrorists in the area, officials said.
The operation soon transitioned to a fierce gunbattle as the terrorists opened fire at the security forces. With the night ahead, forces had suspended the operation for the night, trapping the terrorists in a cordoned area.
