A migrant worker was injured after being shot at by suspected terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian. Reportedly, he sustained injuries in his abdomen and arm. In the past few years, there have been several similar incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, a migrant worker Amritpal Singh, who was a resident of Punjab, was shot dead in Srinagar. The non-local workers often become targets of the terrorists.

Informing about the incident, District Police Shopian stated that the victim, who was fired upon by terrorists in Heerpora Shopian was a taxi driver and an investigation into the matter is underway. Soon after the incident, he was taken to District Hospital after which he was referred to a Srinagar hospital.

The incident took place at nearly 9 PM when the terrorists fired upon and injured Dilranjeet Singh, in the Herpora area of the south Kashmir district. The victim is a resident of Uttarakhand's Dehradun. The condition of the accused is stable and the police have cordoned off the area where Singh was shot at.

Terrorists Opened Fire On Army Truck In January

Today's attack in Srinagar comes a month after terrorists opened fire on army trucks in Poonch, Jammu, and Kashmir, forcing soldiers to retaliate with gunfire. According to some reports, the terrorists may have fled after the initial exchange of gunfire, which included bullets fired from a neighbouring hill in the Krishna Ghati area.

Increasing Terrorist Attacks In Jammu And Kashmir

There have been a number of attacks in the Union Territory in the past on migrant labourers. Such attacks have shaken Jammu and Kashmir, and since October 2019, militants there have frequently targeted non-local  workers.
