The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir's high-altitude regions starting late Saturday night and continuing through Sunday night. Weather conditions are expected to improve by Monday, though dry and cloudy skies will dominate from January 7 to 10. A yellow alert has been issued, urging residents to avoid landslide- and snowfall-prone areas unless necessary.
Jammu experienced sunny weather on Friday, with a maximum temperature of 20.5 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Kashmir's minimum temperatures dipped below freezing, with Srinagar recording -2.2 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam and Qazigund registered minimum temperatures of -4.6 degrees Celsius and -7.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Kokernag emerged as the coldest spot at -5.5 degrees Celsius. Despite a slight rise in Jammu’s minimum temperatures, overall conditions remain colder than usual.
