The Jharkhand BJP was asked to take down a social media post by the Election Commission on Sunday, which flagged the violation of the model code of conduct. Further, the party was asked to explain "the alleged violation of provisions of MCC (Model Code of Conduct) on account of their referred social media posts".
The action by the poll panel followed complaints by the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and its ally Congress. Both parties approached the ECI alleging that a BJP post on Facebook and X was inflammatory in nature.
The two parties complained that the post contained a communal, malicious and misleading video with the caption 'poore Jharkhand ka kaya palat denge' (Will change the face of Jharkhand )', the Commission said in its order.
