In a welcome move for rail passengers in Jharkhand, especially from Dhanbad, the Railway Board has greenlit a new tri-weekly train service between Dhanbad and Bhopal. The much-anticipated train will make travel to Madhya Pradesh’s capital and even further to Ujjain’s Mahakal Temple smoother and more convenient.
This comes as great news for those who’ve long faced limited travel options on this route, especially during peak hours and festival seasons.
Train Schedule Finalized, Launch Date Coming Soon
As per the approved schedule, the train will depart from Dhanbad every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, and return from Bhopal on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
From Dhanbad, the train will leave at 7:20 AM and reach Bhopal the next morning at 7:00 AM.
On the return trip, it will leave Bhopal at 8:55 PM and arrive in Dhanbad by 8:30 PM the next day.
For many passengers, this new timing will be a relief. Unlike existing trains that mostly reach Bhopal late in the evening or night, this new service ensures morning arrival in the city making same-day onward travel to nearby destinations more feasible.
According to Jagran.com, the exact start date for the service will be announced shortly.
One of the biggest advantages of this new train is for religious travelers. Ujjain, home to the revered Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, sees lakhs of pilgrims every year.
Currently, trains like the Howrah-Indore Shipra Express or Kolkata-Ahmedabad Weekly Express reach Ujjain late at night, often causing inconvenience for devotees.
With the new Dhanbad–Bhopal service reaching the capital in the morning, passengers can easily catch a connecting train or bus to Ujjain the same day, avoiding overnight delays and making pilgrimage plans more comfortable.
Check Route, Stations
The Dhanbad–Bhopal train will follow the route of the existing Howrah-Bhopal weekly train. Along the way, it will stop at key stations including:
Phusro, Gomia, Patratu, Latehar, Garhwa Road, Daltonganj, Renukut, Chopan, Obra Dam, Singrauli, Katni Murwara, Khanna Banjari, Bina, Ganj Basoda, and Vidisha
