West Bengal Road Accident: In a tragic road accident in Jharkhand, nine people travelling in a car died after a trailer collided with it on National Highway-18 in Purulia. While providing details, the locals stated that the accident occurred near Namsol village in the early hours of Friday and created panic among them. They further stated that while several of the passengers died on the spot, others died while they were being admitted to a nearby hospital.

Balarampur Police Station in-charge Soumyadeep Mallick stated that all the nine passengers of the car died due to the accident. "The head-on collision occurred between a Bolero SUV and a truck on the highway, resulting in the deaths of all nine occupants of the four-wheeler," Mallick was quoted as saying by PTI. The victims were returning from a wedding ceremony and were heading towards their home, reported PTI, citing sources.

They were travelling from Adabana village under the Barabazar police station jurisdiction in Purulia to Tilaitand in the Nimdih police station area of neighbouring Jharkhand, when the accident occurred. The impact of the collision was so severe that the SUV was mangled. Locals and emergency responders rushed to the spot and took the victims to a nearby primary health centre, where doctors declared all of them dead, the police said.

Preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding and possible negligence as contributing factors to the accident, he said. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, the police added.

In a separte news, three people died and 26 others got injured in Howrah on Thursday after a lorry collided with a bus carrying several passengers. The officials stated that the road accident took place in the Bagnan area in the early hours of Thursday, leading to panic among the locals.
