Jharkhand News: Officials from the Income Tax department found Rs 50 lakh hidden inside the spare tyre of a vehicle in poll-bound Jharkhand. This incident occurred during a routine vehicle inspection at a checkpoint in the Deori police station area, close to the Jharkhand-Bihar border in Giridih district. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the origin and intended use of the cash.

A video circulating on social media shows several officials extracting stacks of cash from the tyre through a narrow opening. In the footage, four officials take turns reaching into the tyre to retrieve the bundles, which total eleven in number.

Nishikant Dubey, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Godda Constituency, shared the video on X (formerly known as Twitter), criticising the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and their ally, Congress, for alleged corruption in the state. He remarked, "If you want to see corruption and piles of money, come to Jharkhand. Today, the income tax department and @ECISVEEP seized 50 lakhs from JMM to influence the elections in Giridih. Look at the Jugaad of Congress and JMM."

The video was also shared by Babulal Marandi, the BJP's state president in Jharkhand, who accused Congress and JMM of attempting to sway the election results using "money power."

This cash seizure occurred just a day after the first phase of voting in the state elections, which saw a turnout of 64.86 per cent by 5 PM across 43 constituencies. The second phase of polling is scheduled for November 20, with the counting of votes set for November 23.
