A man was arrested after an incident of temple vandalism was reported from a village under the Sonuva police station area in Chaibasa. The incident took place late on Sunday night in Mahuldiha village and led to tension in the area.

Incident Reported At Village Temple

The Jagran.com report cited local sources as stating that, the accused allegedly entered a temple in the village, damaged the Shivalinga and urinated inside the premises. The act was noticed by villagers, who caught the man at the spot and alerted the police.

The accused is said to be a youth originally from Murshidabad, who has been living in Sonuva for some time. He works as a mason in the area.

After receiving information, police reached the village, detained the accused and brought him to the Sonuva police station. Officials said the matter is under investigation and necessary legal action will be taken based on the findings.

Villagers Protest At Police Station

On Monday, villagers held a meeting to protest against the incident. Following the discussion, hundreds of residents reached the police station and submitted a written application. They demanded strict action against the accused and sought assurance that such incidents would not be repeated.

Demands For Strict Action

Leaders and members of local organisations also reached the police station. Umashankar Giri from Giriraj Sena, based in Chakradharpur, met police officials and urged them to take firm action in the case.

Police said they are maintaining law and order in the area and have assured villagers that the matter is being handled seriously.
