The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an advisory for Jammu and Kashmir forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the region on April 28 and 29. The met department predicted light to moderate rain, with light snow over higher reaches and the potential for thunder, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds in a few places for two days.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary convened a meeting to ensure the preparedness of various departments to handle emergencies such as floods and waterlogging. Field staff associated with emergency services have been directed to remain on duty.
Farmers have been advised to halt farm operations until April 30 due to the expected weather disruptions. The advisory also warns of temporary traffic disruptions over mountain passes including Zojila, Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road and Razdan Pass.

Residents in low-lying areas are urged to exercise caution as incessant rain has caused rivers and streams to swell, increasing the risk of waterlogging and landslides. The advisory also anticipates a temporary rise in water levels in the Jhelum River, its tributaries and other local streams.
The weather office anticipates an improvement in weather conditions after April 30, with a generally cloudy sky and light rain accompanied by thunder expected in many places.
