The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) issued a notice to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JLN) authorities asking them to not host any events in the stadium until the fire safety measures are renewed. The directive comes in the wake of a fire incident that took place around 7:30 am on March 13 in the stadium's CCTV room and claimed a man’s life.
Police stated that the fire broke out in the lower basement of the main building near P-1 tunnel of the JLN stadium where a man was found unconscious and later declared dead. A case was registered under the Indian Penal Code section 304-A (causing death by negligence) following the man's death, they said.
The notice was sent to the stadium’s administrator on March 15, following an inquiry that revealed the stadium’s fire safety certificate had not been renewed. The DFS has insisted that no events be held at the premises until the certificate is updated.

The department said the premises should not be used for holding events till fire safety systems are repaired, rectified and renewal of fire safety certificate is obtained. "We have asked the stadium authorities to discontinue using the entire stadium complex for holding games, events, and functions," DFS Chief Atul Garg said, reported news agency PTI.
Meanwhile, the fire department has also revoked the fire safety certificate granted to Samrat Hotel reportedly after a departmental team visited the hotel to assess adherence to fire safety regulations on March 5.
The inspection revealed that the hotel had not addressed the identified deficiencies, despite having pledged to do so and being given a six-month grace period. As a result, the fire safety certificate awarded last year is now nullified. The hotel has also been instructed to cease operations until it meets the required fire safety standards, reported TOI.
