The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued a partial code of conduct for the upcoming student elections, banning the use of posters or pamphlets without prior permission from the Election Committee. The code of conduct released by JNU Students’ Union Election Committee on Friday also restricts the use of public address systems, vehicles and animals for campaigning and requires approval from the committee for any public meeting.
The EC appealed to the student community to cooperate with the code of conduct for the smooth functioning of the election process, which will take place after four years, as the last JNUSU polls took place in 2019.
"The EC is releasing a partial code of conduct for the smooth functioning of the election process. We appeal to the student community to cooperate with the EC so that the elections are held peacefully and in disciplined manner," the notice issued on Friday said.

The only permissible campaign materials are handmade posters and photocopied material, which can be used by the contesting students and their student organisations.
According to the notified rules, any public meeting for social, cultural or political purposes must get approval from the election committee in advance. The code of conduct also prohibits students from using campus buildings, roads, electric poles, bus stops, trees, etc. for posters or defacing university property for campaigning.
