BJP MP from Gorakhpur and famous actor Ravi Kishan on Thursday requested the Centre to bring a law to regulate the quantity and rate of the food items served at eateries, including restaurants, hotels and dhabas, across India.
Speaking during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Ravi Kishan noted that there is no uniformity in food items or dishes.
He said, "The rates are different everywhere. In Delhi's Chandni Chowk, the rates of samosa are different, while the prices are different in Gorakhpur's Gol Bazar... Somewhere, you get a large samosa on a plate, while somewhere the size will be small... 'Dal Tadka' at some outlets you get for Rs 100, while at others, it is Rs 120, and in a hotel it is Rs 1,000".
Seeking government attention on the issue, the Gorakhpur MP said, "In the last 11 years, PM Modi has brought in many transformative changes, but this segment has not got its due attention. Therefore, I demand that the government bring a law to regulate the prices of food items, their quality and quantity, so that customers get them at affordable prices".

Reacting to Ravi Kishan's request, Congress took a swipe at him saying he might be talking about Rs 250 samosa at airports operated by businessman Gautam Adani.
He said, "If you are brave enough, then you should question the rates of samosas at airports operated by Gautam Adani. If you cannot do that, then we will believe that you are afraid of Gautam Adani, who is a friend of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
In Ravi Kishan's defence, BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi slammed Congress, saying that it is not interested in the business of the House and is mocking issues of public interest.
"Their sole focus is to create noise, disrupt proceedings, and deliberately obstruct the House. Those who have made such behavior a habit are naturally surprised when genuine public interest issues are raised," he said.
