Film actress and BJP Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ seems to be in troubled waters again as it has not been released in theaters across Punjab due to strong protests by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and other Sikh organisations. However, the film was shown in Chandigarh, where it saw over 50 per cent occupancy.
On Friday morning, SGPC members and Sikh organisations gathered outside theaters across the state and started protesting against Kangana's film. In view of the protests, theater owners also did not show the film. However, many viewers had made advance booking to watch the film.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) activists gathered outside the Trillion Mall in Amritsar and raised pro-Khalistan slogans. In view of the demonstration, a large number of police were deployed outside the theatres.
SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh called Kangana ‘mad’, asserting that she has been speaking against farmers for a long time. He alleged that Kangana’s film was based on Emergency and was part of a conspiracy to portray Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala in bad light.
SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami had already written a letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, seeking a ban on the film. He also warned the state government that the situation may worsen if the film was released.
A high-ranking official, cited by Jagran.com, said that Dhami's letter has been sent to the Chief Minister, but no order has been issued yet. The theater owners themselves have decided not to release the film.
