The BJP’s move to field actress Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has sent ripples through the political landscape. The decision was marred with his opponents accusing her of finally getting the gig she had been auditioning for the past few years.
Notably, Kangana Ranaut's political lineage traces back to her great grandfather, late Sarju Singh, who served as an MLA from the Trifalghat assembly constituency, which highlights that she is not an outsider in the political sphere but that his family have been actively participating in the democratic process of the country.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu referred to Kangana Ranaut as the ''daughter of Himachal,'' highlighting her deep roots in the state amid outrage over a now-deleted social media post by Congress leader Supriya Shrinate targeting Ranaut.

CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also stated that Ranaut's father was made the General Secretary of Congress in Mandi and her parents still live in the hilly state. Her father, Ardeep Singh Ranaut is now a businessman and her mother who is a retired teacher resides in her ancestral home in Bhambla.
"She (Kangana Ranaut) is the daughter of Himachal. Her parents live here. Her father was made the General Secretary of Congress in Mandi," CM Sukhu said while speaking to reporters in Shimla on Tuesday.

The nomination of the ''Queen of Bollywood'' sparked controversy, following a deleted social media post by Congress leader Supriya Shrinate that targeted Ranaut, prompting CM Sukhu’s supportive statement.
As Ranaut prepares for her political debut, she is currently in Delhi to meet with BJP National President JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She is expected to return on March 28 to begin her campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
