Kanwar Yatra Order Row: In Uttar Pradesh, a controversy has emerged over a new directive requiring food shops and eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to prominently display their owners' names. The move has drawn criticism from various public figures and sparked a political slugfest.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut has questioned actor Sonu Sood's response to the directive. Sonu Sood, in a social media post, suggested that shop nameplates should only feature the word "HUMANITY" instead of the owner's name. This statement faced backlash from various social media users who viewed it as a critique of the government's order.
There should be only one name plate on every shop : “HUMANITY” 🇮🇳

In response, Kangana Ranaut stated that the term "Halal" should be replaced with "HUMANITY".
Agree, Halal should be replaced with “ HUMANITY” https://t.co/EqbGml2Yew

"Muzaffarnagar UP police has given instructions that on the route of a particular religious procession in the near future all the shops restaurants and even vehicles should show the name of the owner prominently and clearly. Why? In Nazi Germany they used to make only a mark on particular shops and houses," Javed Akhtar posted on X.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's administration on Friday mandated that food and beverage establishments along Kanwar Yatra routes to clearly display the names and identities of their operators. Additionally, the government has announced that action would be taken against shops selling halal-certified products. The directive aims to ensure the sanctity of the pilgrimage. However, the new directive has led to a political dispute between the BJP and opposition parties.
The Kanwar Yatra will begin on July 22 with the start of the Hindu month of Shravan and will end on August 2.
