Pro-Kannada groups have given a fresh call for Karnataka bandh on Friday, September 29, after their call for Bengaluru bandh received positive response across the capital city. Various farmer and Kannada organisations have been protesting against the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu. These groups have come together under the aegis of Karnataka Jala Samrakshana Samiti to demand a halt on releasing water to the neighbouring state. Their call for Bengaluru Bandh on Tuesday, September 26, has been supported by transport, commercial and school associations.
All schools and colleges will be closed in Bengaluru on Tuesday, according to a statement by Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Dayananda KA.
The Staff and Workers Federation of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has appealed to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) employees to not run buses between 6 AM and 6 PM on Tuesday, the Times of India reported.
The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) has also lent its support to the strike. An association of 32 private transport bodies, Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Association, also decided to join the Bengaluru bandh.

The strike by pro-Kannada groups is likely to affect movement of school vehicles, cabs, autos and airport taxis, but the services might not be shut down altogether. Essential services however will remain functional.
