Bengaluru Bandh: All schools and colleges in Bengaluru nd Mandya will remain closed today, Friday in view of the 'Karnataka Bandh' being called by various farmer organisations over the Cauvery water row issue. Section 144 has been imposed in Mandya district and holidays have been declared for the schools and colleges, said Deputy Commissioner Mandya Dr Kumar.
A call for a statewide dawn-to-dusk shutdown on Friday has been called by 'Kannada Okkuta,' representing Kannada factions like Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Kannada Chalavali (Vatal Paksha), and numerous farmers' bodies.
The organisers said that the bandh is for the entire state and they will try to shut highways, rail services, airports and toll gates.
Due to the bandh, normal life is likely to be affected in the city especially in the southern part of the state as there will be a massive protest from Town Hall to Freedom Park in the city, in which people from all walks of life are expected to join.
However, the organisers said that only buses from airports, railway stations, and bus terminals will transport incoming passengers.
Who's Supporting The Bandh?
- Opposition parties including the BJP and JD(S) have extended their support to the bandh.
- Hotels, autorickshaws and hail riders associations in Karnataka also extended their support to the bandh.
- "Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union and Ola Uber Drivers and Owners’ Association (OUDOA) are supporting the bandh. We will take out a rally from Nayandahalli to the Freedom Park tomorrow," its president Tanveer Pasha was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
- The Karnataka State Private Schools' Association, extended its moral support to the bandh, an office bearer said.

- Farmers and traders in the northern part of Karnataka such as Ballari, Kalaburagi, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Bidar, Yadgir, Hubballi-Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal and Davangere have also extended their ‘moral support’ to the bandh. However, they said that they will not shut down their businesses.
Meanwhile, the State Transportation Department has directed state transportation corporations to continue their services as usual.
