Bengaluru Signal-Free Corridor: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the state budget on Friday, March 7 and announced key infrastructure projects, focussing on urban development, and measures to improve Bengaluru’s traffic management and civic amenities. Presenting his record 16th Budget, Siddaramaiah, who also oversees the Finance portfolio, informed that the total expenditure for the financial year 2025-26 is estimated at Rs 4,09,549 crore, comprising Rs 3,11,739 crore in revenue expenditure, Rs 71,336 crore in capital expenditure, and Rs 26,474 crore for loan repayment. In this budget, the yearly grant of Rs. 3,000 crores which was being provided to Bengaluru city, has been enhanced to Rs. 7,000 crores in the current year.

To ease vehicular congestion and ensure smoother traffic movement, major roads in Bengaluru will be converted into signal-free corridors, reducing delays and improving overall traffic flow.

Karnataka Budget: Other Major Infrastructure Announcements For Bengaluru 

Double-Decker Flyover & Metro Expansion

A 40.5 km double-decker flyover will be constructed at a cost of Rs 8,916 crore, along with the Namma Metro Phase-3 project, aimed at improving connectivity across the city.

Additional Road Network

A network of 300 km of additional roads will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, utilizing canal buffer zones to enhance the city's transport infrastructure.

Arterial & Sub-Arterial Roads

The 460 km arterial and sub-arterial road network in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) area will be developed at a cost of Rs 660 crore, improving intra-city connectivity.

Flyovers & Grade Separators

Flyovers and grade separators with a total length of 120 km will be built to decongest key traffic junctions and improve mobility.

‘Brand Bengaluru’ Plan

A total of Rs 1,800 crore has been allocated for 21 projects under the 'Brand Bengaluru' Plan in FY 2024-25 to enhance the city's infrastructure and services.

Comprehensive Health Programme

Over the next three years, a Comprehensive Health Programme will be implemented under the Brand Bengaluru Plan at a cost of Rs 413 crore, aiming to elevate Bengaluru to global health standards.

Haj Bhavan In Bengaluru

The government also announced construction of an additional building in Haj Bhavan in Bengaluru to provide with facilities and amenities to Haj pilgrims and their relatives.

According to the Budget, BBMP has yielded an additional revenue of Rs 4,556 crores through various reforms and substantially increasing property tax collection. The government has stood guarantee to BBMP for an amount of Rs 19,000 crores for undertaking the North-South and the East-West corridors (tunnels) at a cost of Rs 40,000 crore.
