The tussle over the Chief Minister's post has once again surfaced in the Congress government in Karnataka. This time, Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain has expressed his objection to the recent statement of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son Yatindra Siddaramaiah and has advised him to "act with discipline".
Hussain also demanded that DK Shivakumar become the Chief Minister. Iqbal Hussain said that at least 80 party MLAs had submitted Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's name to the high command for the CM post.
Demand To Make DK Shivakumar The CM
Speaking to ANI on Monday, Iqbal Hussain criticised Congress MLC Yatindra Siddaramaiah for making statements in favour of his father and CM Siddaramaiah.
Iqbal Hussain said, "We have left it to the high command. 80-90 MLAs have requested the high command to give DK Shivakumar a chance (for the CM post).”
“We are a disciplined party, and we have to behave properly. We don't like him (Yathindra Siddaramaiah) repeatedly speaking in favour of his father and embarrassing the high command. Every father loves his son, and every son loves his father, but in politics we have to operate with discipline. We should not provoke others with such statements,” he added.
80-90 MLAs Want DK Shivakumar As Chief Minister
"We all want DK Shivakumar to be given a chance. Everyone wants that, but we should not create confusion with statements, so everyone is silent and some are talking amongst themselves,” Iqbal Hussain remarked.
“I am saying this clearly and with an open heart as I had said from the first day that DK Shivakumar should be given a chance in this term itself, this is my wish,” he further stated.
“I want DK Shivakumar to become CM soon in this term,” Congress MLC Channaraja Hattiholi also echoed a similar sentiment.
What Did Yatindra Siddaramaiah Say?
Last week, Yatindra Siddaramaiah had reportedly said that the Congress high command has given the green signal to Siddaramaiah to continue as CM for the full term.
Responding to Yatindra's comments in support of his father, DK Shivakumar said, "I respectfully accept whatever he says. Since he spoke as if he were the high command, we should accept him as such."
Tussle Over Leadership In Karnataka Continues
The leadership tussle within the Karnataka Congress began in November 2025, as the government approached the halfway point of its five-year term. Along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Home Minister G Parameshwara is also in the running for the top post.
