Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Monday expressed dismay over the Supreme Court's rejection of his petition against the CBI investigation in disproportionate assets case. Calling the case a part of political vendetta, Shivakumar called it "unfair". Hitting out at the then BJP government in Karnataka, he said that they permitted CBI to launch a probe against me.

"It is a setback. What to do? This is unfair," the senior Congress leader said. "I will look at all the legal aspects and see how I can file an appeal. Everyone knows how political and vindictive... my issues have been going on. When the BJP government was there they gave (the CBI) permission to register a FIR. I asked for it to be squashed but they said they cannot," he added as quoted by the NDTV.

The Deputy CM also questioned CBI's continued investigation in the case despite the state government's reversal of the permission given to the central agency.

"At the same time, the Karnataka government (after the Congress came to power) withdrew permission given to CBI and handed over the case to the Lokayukta... so now CBI is continuing to investigate. All this despite the government withdrawing consent," Shivakumar said.

This comes hours after a Supreme Court bench comprising of Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma dismissed his petition, saying it lacked merit and there was no reason to interfere in the investigation.

Reacting to the development, Shivakumar stated that the cases against him were part of a conspiracy by the BJP, and that the saffron party itself was involved in numerous scams during their tenure.

“All of the scams have been created by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The BJP tenure is the father of scams which is why they have been thrown out by people. Now, we are trying to clean up everything. They aren’t able to digest this since their names will come out,” HT quoted him as saying.
