The principal of a residential school in Karnataka's Kolar was suspended after videos of Dalit students cleaning a septic tank went viral on social media. The videos of the incident were reportedly taken by a school teacher on a mobile phone. Promptly taking action, the education department has suspended the principal along with the warden and two other teachers, reported Hindustan Times.

The reported incident took place at Morarji Desai Residential School in Yaluvahalli, Malur taluk. Allegedly, five to six students from classes 7 to 9 were forced to enter and clean a septic tank. The Principal Bharathamma, along with teachers Muniyappa and Abhishek, and hostel warden Manjunath, who were present during the incident have been suspended.

Karnataka's Social Welfare Minister, HC Mahadevappa, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. Mahadevappa expressed strong disapproval, saying, "A responsible organisation can't employ children for such work. It is highly condemnable. As soon as I came to know about this, I called the principal and suspended the principal, warden, and other officials."

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah promised strict action against the perpetrators and has asked for a detailed report on the matter. “I have come to know about the incident and I have sought a report. Will take strict action based on the report,” he said.

Sunil Hosmani, the chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, visited the school and conducted an inspection. Naveen Kumar Raju, the executive director of Karnataka Residential Education Institutions Society (KRIES), and R Srinivas, the joint director of the social welfare department, also inspected the school.
