Incessant rainfall in Karnataka's Shivamogga district triggered a tragic landslide in the early hours of Sunday, claiming the lives of three members of a family, including a three-year-old child.
The disaster happened around 2.30 AM in the Indira Nagar area. A portion of a hill collapsed onto a house, burying its occupants in the debris.
According to PTI, the three deceased were 35-year-old Mallikarjuna, his 28-year-old wife Nagaveni, and their three-year-old son Santosh. They originally hailed from the Koppal district and were asleep when the landslide hit their house.
A man from a nearby shed suffered grievous injuries in the incident and was rushed to a private hospital. Immediately after the landslide, a Fire and Emergency Services unit, along with the local police, commenced search and rescue operations for the bodies.
According to the police, the hill was the cause of the collapse due to the continuous rainfall that has been plaguing the Malnad region of the state.
