Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Three separate cases have been filed against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, state BJP president BY Vijayendra, and former Chief Minister and JD(S) supremo HD Kumaraswamy over alleged instances of misconduct in context of the ongoing Lok Sabha election, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka informed on Saturday. According the official, the FIR against Shivakumar, who also heads the Karnataka unit of Congress, pertains to the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during a canavassing speech to apartment owners in Bengaluru's RR Nagara.
"The FIR No.78/2024 at RMC Yard PS is lodged u/s 171(B)(C)(E)(F) of IPC for bribery and undue influence at elections," Karnataka CEO said regarding the FIR against Shivakumar, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). In a separate post, the official informed the public about the case against BY Vijayendra, which has been filed in connection with a post posted by BJP Karnataka's official X handle on Friday (April 19). The leader, former CM BS Yediyurappa's son, has been booked for allegedly disturbing public tranquility, Karnataka CEO said.
FIR is lodged by FST of Bengaluru against B Y Vijayendra, State President, for a derogatory post posted on official X handle of BJP Karnataka on 19.04.24. The FIR No.60/2024 at Malleshwaram PS is lodged u/s 125 of RP Act and 505, 153(A) of IPC on disturbing public tranquility.

A third post by the official provided details about the FIR against Kumaraswamy, who, as per the Karnataka CEO, allegedly made false statements about the ongoing general polls. "FIR is registered against HD Kumaraswamy of JDS by the FST of Gubbi, Tumkuru on the grounds of false statements in connection with elections. FIR No.149/2024 is registered at Gubbi PS u/s 123(4) of RP Act and 171(G) of IPC," the post said.
