Karnataka News: A nurse at a government hospital in Karnataka has been suspended after using Fevikwik, a non-medical adhesive, to treat a child's injury. The suspension was announced following a meeting led by the Chief Secretary of the state government on Wednesday.

The Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner's Office stated that Fevikwik is not approved for medical use. The nurse, responsible for this serious breach of protocol, received the suspension after a preliminary investigation, with further inquiries still to follow.

The incident took place on January 14 at the Adoor Primary Health Centre in Hanagal taluk. Seven-year-old Gurukishan Annappa Hosamani was brought in by his parents, who were concerned about a deep wound on his cheek that was bleeding heavily.

During the treatment, the parents recorded a video in which the nurse dismissed their worries, claiming she had been using this method for years and insisted that stitches would leave a permanent scar on the child's face. Following the incident, the parents filed an official complaint and provided the video as evidence.

Despite the video documentation, instead of facing immediate disciplinary action, the nurse, Jyoti, was transferred to another facility, the Gutthal Health Institute in Haveri taluk, on February 3. This decision has sparked further outrage among the public.

However, the child is reported to be recovering well after the treatment. Health authorities have been instructed to keep a close watch for any potential complications resulting from the incident.
