At least 13 people died and 19 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Karnataka on Wednesday, police said. In the first incident, a truck carrying fruit vendors plunged into a 50-metre-deep valley on the Savanur-Hubballi Road in Yellapura, killing nine individuals and injuring nine others. The accident occurred around 5:30 am in a forested section of the road when the driver, attempting to give way to an overtaking vehicle, swerved too far left.

The truck, lacking barrier walls on the edge, fell into the valley. The victims were en route to a local fair in Yellapura to sell fruits, according to Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police M Narayana. The injured were transported to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi.

In a second accident near Araginamara Camp in Sindhanur, Raichur district, four people, including three students, were killed and ten others were injured when their vehicle overturned. The students, from Mantralaya Sanskrit Pathashala, were traveling to Hampi for a pilgrimage to offer prayers at the Narahari Temple.

The deceased in the Sindhanur accident were identified as students Aryavandan (18), Sucheendra (22) and Abhilash (20), along with the driver, Shiva (24). The injured were admitted to a local hospital for treatment. The Sindhanur Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

Bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem examination while the injured are receiving medical treatment. Police have launched an investigation into both accidents to ascertain the cause of the incident.
