A 23-year-old woman, identified as Bhagyashree Jigalur, was allegedly hanged to death by her husband in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district on Sunday. The accused allegedly recorded the entire episode on his phone and shared it with his family and friends. The accused, identified as Praveen Jigalur, was suspecting his wife of being involved in an extramarital affair.
Cops said Praveen allegedly filmed a video of his wife struggling for life after she was hanged. He also allegedly made a video call to her parents while she was struggling to breathe, forcing them to witness their daughter's death. Later, he shared the video with several people, the police said.
Couple Had Frequent Disputes
The victim had allegedly left her husband’s home about two months ago following frequent arguments and had been staying in her maternal home since then. Praveen had reportedly convinced her that he will fix all problems once she comes back to him. However, she was allegedly killed the same evening after returning home.
Initial investigation suggests the accused, Praveen, first assaulted Bhagyashree with a wooden stick before hanging her using a dupatta inside their bedroom. Police said he suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. However, the authenticity of the video has not been verified yet.
Woman Captured Struggling For Life
In the recorded video clip, Bhagyashree was seen hanging by a green dupatta while struggling to land on the bed. The names of the couple, written on the bedroom wall during their wedding ceremony, are visible behind her.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation. The accused has been arrested and investigators are examining the sequence of events leading to the alleged murder.
