Karnataka’s Mandya police imposed a lathi charge and enforced Section 144 in Maddur town to disperse people protesting the reported stone-pelting during Lord Ganesh idol immersion on Sunday. Several people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi visited the site to review the situation. Police deployed additional forces and carried out the immersion under heavy security. Sensitive areas in Maddur remain under tight police surveillance.

According to police, the trouble began around 8 pm when the procession, which had started from Siddhartha Nagar 5th Cross, was passing through Ram Rahim Nagar. Within minutes, the situation escalated into a clash between two groups. The district administration appealed to both communities to cooperate with law enforcement to restore normalcy.

Speaking to the reporters, Karnataka Home Minister G Parmeshwara said, "An incident has happened in Maddur town, Mandya, a stone pelting incident, which is now under control. The police have already arrested a few people. Section 144 has been imposed. One or two small incidents also happened in the state. One stabbing incident has also happened; everything is under control. The police have taken all the necessary steps."

Police presence remains heavy in Maddur, with checkpoints set up at sensitive locations. Officials have urged residents to maintain peace and warned of strict action against those spreading rumours or disturbing communal harmony. “We request the public to stay calm and not spread misinformation. Our priority is to restore normalcy and ensure safety for all communities,” said SP Baladandi.

Meanwhile, the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, which began on August 27, concluded on Saturday with grand 'visarjan processions' across the country. 'Ganesh Visarjan' is observed on the festival’s tenth day, Anant Chaturdashi. Footage from various pandals showed devotees participating in the processions, bidding farewell to Lord Ganesh.
