Karnataka Monsoon: Parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, are expected to have a rainy week as the southwest monsoon picks up steam. A red alert was issued for portions of the coastal belt on Sunday, while orange and yellow advisories were issued for other areas, including Bengaluru Urban, by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

For the next four days, Karnataka is expected to have more rain and strong winds, according to the IMD. It has been recommended that residents in interior and coastal regions exercise caution, particularly in areas that are under red and orange alerts. In certain areas, wind speeds of up to 50 kmph are expected.

Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Dakshina Kannada have all been placed under a red warning, which denotes exceptionally severe rains.

An orange alert has been issued for Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Chamarajanagar, Davanagere, Hassan, and Mysuru, indicating extremely severe rains.

Meanwhile, the Mandya, Koppal, Kalaburagi, and Bidar districts are on yellow alert, indicating severe rains.

According to a senior scientist at IMD Bengaluru, two meteorological systems are causing significant rainfall, reported TOI.

"The widely distributed rainfall across Karnataka is attributed to two prevailing weather conditions, an upper air cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and a trough extending up to coastal Andhra Pradesh across Telangana," the scientist said.

Furthermore, a previous cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has joined with another near south Bangladesh, increasing rainfall activity in the state.
