Kerala Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange, and yellow advisories for many districts in Kerala due to the forecast of widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall till June 18.

In an official statement, the IMD warned of exceptionally heavy rainfall in five districts in Kerala: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

Nine other districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad, have also received an orange alert, which indicates the possibility of extremely heavy rain.

The state's heightened monsoon activity is reflected in the advisories, and officials are advising citizens to exercise caution and adhere to safety precautions.

According to PTI, Kerala Minister for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe O R Kelu instructed the relevant officials to guarantee sufficient amenities in tribal hamlets in the interior regions as the state continues to be battered by severe rains.

“Southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea; some parts of north Arabian Sea and Gujarat; remaining parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana; some parts of Madhya Pradesh; some more parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha,” said IMD.

Schools Closed In Tamil Nadu

The district administration of the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu has announced a holiday for schools in the taluks of Ooty (Udhagamandalam), Kundah, Gudalur, and Pandalur because of the intense rain and wind.
