Karnataka's luxury train, the Golden Chariot, is all set to expand its circuit, with plans to extend its route to Mumbai and Aurangabad, offering travelers a more exotic experience. Under the new service, many new destinations like the Ajanta and Ellora caves, Mysuru and Hampi are expected to be added to the itinerary. This new route is expected to roll out in the next financial year.

The train is operated by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in collaboration with the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and gives a holistic glimpse of South India. Plans are also afoot to add Goa to the Golden Chariot's itinerary, which currently spans five nights and six days, according to a railway official, quoted The New Indian Express.

"Tour and travel operators have suggested several other circuits, including short ones covering unique, lesser-known destinations preferred by tourists. We need to consider logistics, including train routes and bus arrangements. Cooperation from private tour operators and government agencies is essential. Partnerships with hotels and travel agencies are also being planned," the railway official added.

- The Golden Chariot began its operations in 2008 and currently takes tourists across major destinations in Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry based on tour packages.

- Travellers can choose one of the three following packages: a) Pride of Karnataka b) Jewels of South c) Glimpses of Karnataka. The range of these trips lies between four days to seven days.

- The train reflects the rich Dravidian cultural heritage and comes with modern amenities like: Ayurvedic spa, two fine-dining restaurants, deluxe wooden cabins (with personal washrooms), a gym, and a conference hall.

- For Indians, this luxury joyride comes at various price ranges starting from Rs 2.65 lakh for the Glimpses of Karnataka itinerary to Rs 3.98 lakh for the longer Pride of Karnataka and Jewels of South journeys.
