Vijay's Video Message

Earlier, Vijay, in a video message, stated that he was completely shattered after the stampede. He further stated that he did not visit the affected site again to ensure that a similar situation was not repeated.

Vijay added that the state government framed his close friends and senior party members even though they did nothing wrong after the stampede. The TVK chief further suggested the Chief Minister MK Stalin take action against him if he sought "revenge".

“I have not faced a painful situation like this in my life. My heart aches. Only pain in my heart. People came to see me in the campaign. I am always grateful to the love and affection people have on me. In order to ensure there should be no compromise on safety of people, I kept politics aside and chose a place that was safe for the people and requested the police department. But what should not have happened, happened,” Vijay had stated in his video message.

On Saturday, the Madras High Court had slammed Vijay and the other top leaders of TVK party over the stampede incident. The court criticised Vijay's party members for fleeing from the scene immediately after the stampede broke out, adding that the party did not care for the supporters.

Justice N Senthilkumar observed that TVK leaders should have taken necessary steps to tackle the situation. However, the court also expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation by the state government.

The court ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Asra Garg. Justice N Senthilkumar observed that the TVK leaders should not have left the scene just after the stampede, adding that they put no efforts to control the situation.
