MP Cough Syrup Deaths: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking CBI investigation into the death of 14 children from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara due to suspected renal failure, linked to the consumption of a "toxic" cough syrup.

The PIL filed by a lawyer seeks a retired Supreme Court judge-monitored probe and inquiry into the manufacture, regulation, testing and distribution of contaminated cough syrups, as per news agency ANI.

The police have arrested the doctor who prescribed the Coldrif syrup. Most of the patients were admitted at the clinic of pediatrician Praveen Soni in Chhindwara. Apart from this, the state government also filed a case against Srisan Pharmaceuticals for manufacturing the syrup that deteriorated the health of the children.
