Kathua Encounter: Three terrorists and two police personnel have been killed in a fresh encounter that broke out in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir today. A massive anti-terror operation has been continuing in the area for the last four days.
Meanwhile, six soldiers, two from the Indian Army and four from the police, are being treated at the hospital.
The gunfight started this morning when the security forces discovered the terrorists close to Jakhole village in the Rajbagh district of Ghati Juthana, which is about 30 kilometres from the location of the fight that took place in the Hiranagar sector on Sunday.
The terrorists are thought to be the same group that was involved in a gunfight with security forces in the area on Sunday, which injured a young girl, officials told news agency PTI, adding that reinforcements had been rushed to the scene and that two sides were exchanging gunfire when the last reports were received.
A massive search operation involving the police, army, NSG, BSF, and CRPF, armed with technical and surveillance equipment and supported by helicopters, UAVs, drones, bulletproof vehicles, and sniffer dogs, entered its fourth day to find the terrorists who are thought to have entered on Saturday via either the ravine route or a newly created tunnel from across the border.
After obtaining intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in "dhok," a term used to describe an enclosure inside the Sanyal village nursery, the officials said they began an operation on Sunday. But when they advanced into the area, the terrorists in hiding opened fire on them, starting a heated gunfight. There were no reported injuries in the gunfight.
Security forces discovered four loaded magazines of M4 carbine, two grenades, a bulletproof jacket, sleeping bags, tracksuits, multiple packets of food, and separate polythene bags containing material for making improvised explosive devices near the scene of the encounter in Hiranagar.
Officials said that before today's encounter, the security forces had successfully tracked down the terrorists by extending the search operation, especially the routes leading to the Billawar forest.
