Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the bhoomi pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project today at 11 am at Kaliabor in Assam’s Nagaon district. The project was given a green signal by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on October 1, 2025. The project will be constructed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model. 

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, "Looking forward to being in Kaliabor, Assam today for the Bhoomi Poojan of key development works, including the 35 km elevated corridor across Kaziranga. This will go a long way in safeguarding animals, particularly in the monsoon season. During the programme, Amrit Bharat trains will be flagged off, which will improve connectivity for the people of Assam."

Kaziranga Elevated Corridor: Details

  • Cost: Approximately Rs 6,950 crore

  • Route: The corridor will pass through Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts. It will also boost connectivity in Upper Assam, especially in areas of Tinsukhia and Dibrugarh. 

  • The Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project is an ecologically sensitive infrastructure project in Assam designed to protect wildlife while enhancing regional connectivity.

  • The entire project spans 85.675 kilometres along the Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of the National Highway-715 (NH-715).

  • A key feature of the project is the 34.45-km elevated stretch of the corridor that passes through a core wildlife zone.

  • The elevated stretch will ensure a free-flow of movement of animals, especially during the monsoon time when they move towards the Karbi Anglong hills.

  • The project also includes widening of the existing two-lane NH-715 between Kaliabor to Numaligarh to four lanes. 

  • A 21 km greenfield bypass will also be constructed between Jakhabandha and Bokakhat. 

  • It will decongest the existing corridor, improve safety and enhance the direct connectivity between Guwahati (the State Capital), Kaziranga National Park (tourism destination) and Numaligarh (an industrial town).

  • Once completed, the corridor will integrate NH-127, NH-129 and SH-35, thereby providing seamless connectivity to key economic areas of Assam.

  • In addition, the upgraded corridor will improve connectivity by linking three railway stations, Nagaon, Jakhalabandha and Vishwanath Charli and three airports at Tezpur, Liabari and Jorhat.
