The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee declared on Friday that the Kedarnath Temple will be open to pilgrims this year starting at 7 AM on May 10. The announcement was made on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri.

The Panchmukhi Doli will set out on May 6 to begin the pilgrimage. According to news agency ANI, it will make a number of stops before arriving at the sacred site of Kedarnath Dham on the evening of May 9. Ajendra Ajay, the president of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, was present when the decision was made during a religious ceremony at the Pachkadar Gaddi Sthal Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, Uttarakhand.

The temple's doors closed on November 15, 2023, in preparation for the upcoming winter. Two thousand five hundred pilgrims attended the ceremony, which featured devotional music performed by the Indian Army band.

All routes to Kedarnath Dham close for six months during the winter due to heavy snowfall. On the occasion of Bhai Dooj in the winter, Kedarnath Dham closes its doors two days following Diwali each year. Then, in April or May, the temple reopens.

The idol is moved to Ukhimath and reinstalled in April or May, while the temple remains closed during the winter.

The eleventh Jyotirlinga in India, Kedarnath Temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. Thousands of followers and travelers visit the revered Hindu location annually.
