Uttarakhand News:  The local administration in Uttarakhand has urged devotees travelling to Shri Kedarnath Dham to be more cautious amid a heavy rainfall alert issued by the Meteorological Department. The officials have appealed to the devotees not to travel in heavy rains.

Sub-District Magistrate Ukhimath Anil Kumar Shukla has requested pilgrims to begin the journey after obtaining proper information regarding the weather from the local administration and the weather department.

According to him, stones might fall on the yatra route due to heavy showers in the month of Sawan. Therefore, it might not be advisable to travel from a safety point of view.

He said that on the Kedarnath walking path, there is a chance of stones falling at locations like Chirbasa, Gaurikund, and Lincholi.

In addition, a lot of rain might cause stones to fall close to the Doliya Devi Temple in Fata on the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund National Highway. He urged everyone to proceed cautiously in these kinds of circumstances.

He has also urged to begin their journey only after contacting the District Disaster Management Office.

Earlier on Sunday, July 21, a landslide in the Uttarakhand district of Rudraprayad caused three fatalities and eight injuries in the Chirbasa area.

The tragedy happened that morning when the pilgrims were walking from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dham along the Kedarnath Yatra route.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was notified by the Rudraprayag District Control Room that a landslide in that area along the Kedarnath Yatra route had left several individuals buried beneath debris.

The SDRF crew responded quickly to the information, arriving at the location with the required rescue gear and initiating rescue operations.
