Kedarnath Yatra Update: As the monsoon season is likely to end, the second phase of the Char Dham Yatra is expected to regain momentum from September 15 in the region. However, travellers may have to pay over 40 per cent more for helicopter services to Kedarnath.

The reason is that, due to the stringent security standards in place, helicopters will operate with fewer trips and fewer passengers, leading to an expected increase in fares. Booking for helicopter services will commence from September 10, and the services are scheduled to operate from September 15.

The second phase of the Char Dham Yatra, which typically commences on September 1 in the region, is expected to gain momentum from September 15 after the helicopter services resume post-monsoon. However, recent helicopter accidents have prompted the authorities to implement stricter standards for the operation of helicopter services during the second phase.

Services Not To Operate In Adverse Weather Conditions

To ensure safety, the helicopter services will be closely monitored, and operations will be halted in adverse weather conditions. A monitoring system is being developed, comprising representatives from DGCA, ATC, UKADA, and the Aviation Authority of India. Additionally, weather stations and ceilometers will be installed to provide accurate weather forecasts.

Flight Quantity To Be Reduced In Kedarnath

The new standards will restrict helicopter companies from operating arbitrarily, and they will not be allowed to carry excess passengers or make unauthorised trips. As a result, the cost of the journey is expected to increase. During the first phase of the Char Dham Yatra, nine helicopter companies operated 250-270 flights per day in one direction. However, under the new guidelines, seven helicopter companies will operate 184 flights in one direction.
