Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday sent AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal into judicial custody till April 15. Delhi CM appeared before the court after his extended ED remand was suspended on Monday.
The federal probe agency said his further custodial interrogation, at the moment, was not required. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appeared for ED in the case.
Kejriwal has moved an application to allow him to have a special diet in the jail. He has also sought permission to carry three books-- Bhagvad Geeta, Ramayana and How Prime Ministers Decide--along with him, Bar and Bench reported.
The law enforcement agency, however, alleged Kejriwal had not cooperated with them during the interrogation.
Kejriwal was produced before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja in Rouse Avenue court, at the end of the remand period, in the Delhi excise policy money laundering case. A massive paraphernalia of security was put in place during Kejriwal’s visit to the court.
The Enforcement Directorate on March 21 arrested Arvind Kejriwal alleging that the latter was a key conspirator in the money laundering case linked with Delhi Excise Policy. This came hours after the Delhi High Court turned down his interim protection plea.
Kejriwal was sent to ED custody till March 28, which was later extended till April 1.
INDIA Bloc on Sunday organised a massive rally in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against Kejriwal’s arrest. Delhi CM’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, along with former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's wife, Kalpana Soren, were also a part of the rally.
The 'Loktantra Bachao' rally witnessed the participation of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, party leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, among others.
