Kerala News: A 12-year-old boy died in Aluva, Kochi, on Sunday after a coconut tree collapsed on him while he was playing near his house. The victim has been identified as Muhammad Sinan, son of Sudheer and Sabiya.

According to police, the incident occurred in the afternoon when Sinan and a group of children noticed a parrot sitting on a dried coconut tree close to their homes. In an attempt to catch the bird, they tried to bring down the tree. However, it gave way and fell on Sinan, leaving him critically injured.

Neighbours rushed the boy to hospital, but doctors declared him dead shortly after arrival. His body was later shifted to Kalamassery Medical College for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to his family.

Sinan was a Class 7 student of Thottakkatukara Holy Ghost Convent School, police added.

In separate news, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for parts of Kerala in the coming days, with warnings issued for several northern districts. On Sunday, September 28, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are expected to witness isolated heavy showers, classified under a yellow alert, with rainfall likely between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

The IMD said rain or thundershowers are likely across most parts of Kerala today and tomorrow, while widespread showers are expected to continue between 30 September and 3 October. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may strike at isolated spots, and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph are possible in some areas. Officials have urged residents to stay alert to local advisories and remain cautious of flooding and waterlogging.
