Thrissur Road Rage: A man attempted to run over a car owner at Erumapetty in Thrissur, Kerala, on Friday. A video surfaced on social media in which a man is seen clinging to the bonnet of a speeding car. According to police, the owner of the car somehow escaped after the accused forced him to travel several kilometres, hanging onto the car's bonnet.
Police said the car was being driven by Backer of Thrissur, who had rented the vehicle from the victim, Solaman of Aluva in September. Later, Backer did not return Aluva's two cars. The car owner had filed a complaint with the police.
Aluva said Backer had promised him to give his land instead of returning the vehicles, but he did not fulfil the promise. On Friday morning, Solaman saw Backer in the Erumapetty area and confronted him, resulting in the dramatic incident which was captured on phone.
As Aluva confronted Backer, he attempted to flee in the car. Aluva tried to stop him and blocked his way. Solaman stood in front of the vehicle, but Backer moved the car, and Solaman clung to the bonnet. The accused drove the car for a few killometres. Despite repeated pleas, the accused did not stop the vehicle, which moved for over five kilometres.
Locals who saw the speeding car with a man clung to the bonnet, informed the police. After which police intercepted the vehicle and arrested the accused.
Erumapetty police said they have registered a case for dangerous driving and have arrested Backer. Further investigation is ongoing, police added.
