Kerala Ragging Case: A day after five students of the government nursing college in Kerala’s Kottayam were arrested for allegedly ragging juniors, a heart-wrenching video has emerged showing the junior students being subjected to physical and emotional torture.
The video shows the victim bound to a bed, with his hands and legs tied, as another student repeatedly pricks him with a compass. The victim's body bears multiple injuries, with a white lotion applied to exacerbate the wounds. The lotion is also poured into the victim's eyes and mouth.
According to footage obtained by the Gandhinagar police, the victim was stripped half-naked and subjected to horrific acts, including having dumbbells placed on his genitals after being tied to a cot, as reported by news agency PTI.

The disturbing incident in Kottayam shows the horror of ragging in medical colleges and other institutions, despite laws against it. The brutal video of a junior student being tortured by seniors shows the persistence of this pattern, where students continue to endure physical and emotional abuse.
The Kerala ragging horror incident came to light after three first-year students from the Government Nursing College in Kottayam filed a police complaint. They revealed that the torture began in November 2024 and persisted for approximately three months.
The accused students have been suspended following the complaint. They are Samuel Johnson (20), Rahul Raj (22), Jeeva (18), Rijil Jith (20), and Vivek (21). One of the allegations includes claims that the seniors extorted money from juniors every Sunday to buy alcohol, with those who refused being subjected to physical abuse.
Meanwhile, the police said that they were searching whether there were more victims in connection with the ragging incident. "The case has been registered based on a complaint from one student but we will record statements from others to determine if there are more victims," Kottayam District Police Chief Shahul Hameed was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Hameed added that the investigation will also look into whether there were any shortcomings or negligence on the part of the college authorities.
