Kerala News: A street play in Kannur, Kerala, took an unexpected turn when a stray dog bit an actor performing in a drama meant to spread awareness about the rising dog menace in the state. The incident occurred on Sunday during the one-act play ‘Pekkolam’ at the P Krishnappilla Library in Kandankai.

Dog Enters Stage Mid-Performance

Actor P Radhakrishnan was performing a scene in which he ran with a stick, pretending to flee from a dog, when a black stray dog suddenly appeared on stage and bit his leg. The chaos unfolded as an audience member rushed forward, waving a slipper to chase the animal away. Despite the commotion, Radhakrishnan was injured before help arrived.

Actor Continued Despite Injury

The NDTV report cited eyewitnesses as stating that, the attack happened just as a barking sound effect played through the microphone, which may have provoked the dog. Remarkably, Radhakrishnan continued his performance after the incident, portraying a father mourning the loss of his daughter in a stray dog attack. The audience, unaware of the real bite, initially praised the “realistic” acting, believing it to be part of the play.

Renewed Anger Over Stray Dog Attacks

After the performance, the injured actor was taken to a hospital for treatment. The incident has once again sparked public outrage over the increasing stray dog attacks in Kannur. Residents have accused local authorities of failing to act despite repeated incidents.

In June, at least 21 people were attacked by stray dogs in the district. Just days earlier, another 50 people were bitten in separate incidents, leading to protests and panic among residents.
