Kerala Weather: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in Kerala districts till September 27, Saturday. Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Kottayam have been placed under an orange alert for moderate showers. Surface winds speeding less than 40 kmph are also expected during this period.

Severe waterlogging was witnessed in parts of Thiruvananthapuram on Friday morning. All educational institutions have been closed in the district on Friday due to heavy rain, the District Collector announced. However, public examinations which have been scheduled for Friday will be conducted as planned, reported news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, IMD has put Wayanad, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kasaragod, Kannur, Malappuram, and Palakkad on a yellow alert for light rain.

Isolated areas in Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, Goa, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are also likely to witness heavy rain till tomorrow.

The downpour began on Thursday, affecting mostly the central and southern regions of Kerala. Among the highest recorded rainfall was 80 mm at Lower Sholayar in Thrissur, followed by 68 mm in Pathanamthitta and 55 mm in Karumadi, Alappuzha, according to the IMD. Kollam and parts of Pathanamthitta also saw substantial rainfall, while areas like Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, and Kochi witnessed more moderate showers. The state capital received 29 mm of rain.
