Kerala Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts of Kerala for the next five days. The weather department has further cautioned people not to step out of the house as isolated heavy showers are expected. 

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts. The weather conditions will prevail till November 20.

Kerala Weather Update: Yellow Alert In These Districts

  • Sunday, November 16: Districts of Kottayam and Idukki

  • Monday, November 17: Districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki

  • Tuesday, November 18: Districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Malappuram

  • Wednesday, November 19: Districts of Kottayam and Idukki

  • Thursday, November 20: Districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kannur and Kasaragod 

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is defined as 24-hour precipitation of 64.5-115.5 mm. Residents in the affected districts are urged to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official weather advisories.

Chennai Weather Update

In a separate development, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted Chennai residents of heavy to heavy rain on Monday amid a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The weather body has issued an orange alert in this regard. Chennai witnessed continuous overnight showers, causing widespread waterlogging. As a result all private and government schools have been closed.

Tamil Nadu School Holiday

-Chengalpattu: Schools closed because of rain and safety concerns.

-Chennai: Schools have been shut for November 17 amid intense downpour and waterlogging.

-Tiruvallur: Schools shut amid waterlogging.

-Tiruvallur: Schools shut amid waterlogging.
