Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in Kerala, as incidents of Landslides were registered in Kozhikode district on Thursday, inundating multiple homes. The rising water levels in rivers like Uppala, Manjeswaram, Madhur, and Puthige in the Kasaragod district have prompted authorities to issue warnings for residents living along the riverbanks.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Red' alert for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts due to persistent heavy rainfall.

Kerala Weather Today: Red, Orange And Yellow Alert In Place

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts for extremely heavy rainfall, while Idukki, Malappuram, and Kozhikode are put on orange alert for the possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad have been placed under a yellow alert for rain on Friday. 

Kerala Weather Forecast: Alert To Continue Till July 21

The torrential rain is expected to batter the state over the next few days as Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod are placed on a red alert on July 19, and districts like Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod will remain under alert on July 20 for the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. 

Several other districts have been placed under an orange and a yellow alert till July 21 as downpours are expected to continue in the state.

The IMD has also warned of strong surface winds (40–50 kmph) along the Kerala coast for the next five days. Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to avoid fishing and marine activities along the Kerala–Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts until July 21.
